Within the projects STC B.V. was responsible for the cargo & traffic forecast from 2005 till 2025 and for the economic and financial analyses. |
The last decade a relative large number of passenger ferries capsized in Philippine waters and many people lost their life. For this reason the Dutch Government, through STC B.V., offered the Philippine Authorities assistance to increase safety onboard Philippine registered vessels aiming at reducing the number of ferry disasters and casualties. |

The MAS is the organization that supervises the compliance of legal rules in shipping. The MAS guarantees a safe and efficient passage of sea-going vessels from and to Suriname based on internationally accepted standards, rules and treaties ratified by Suriname. The MAS pursues to become the best Maritime Authority in the region. |

The overall objective of the project (including the physical rehabilitation of the ‘Nieuwe Haven Terminal’ was to enhance the economic growth by improving the accessibility of Suriname for international trade. As for the Technical Assistance (TA) the purpose was to contribute to an improved capacity and efficiency of the port management by means of assistance in the legal and institutional framework, the organizational, operational and planning capacity as well as in training. |

Nautical training in order to gain a good base for the local pilot training. Duration of the training would range between 6-9 months, depending on the progress during the training. The training started on level zero and will end with the knowledge of at least the basic subjects for a maritime officer to become a licensed pilot. |
