VALE Fact-finding (Brasil)

The project objectives were:

  • Evaluate proposals for the training of the practical interface between port and rail ways coming from the mines that will use the same CEL;
  • Evaluate of the proposed layout of the CEL;
  • Propose training equipment for the CEL;
  • Evaluate the content of teaching, comparing it to the current practices of world-class training Centres;
  • Evaluate the form of management of the CEL to define the best form of resource allocation.

VALE Tug Master Training (Brasil)

The project objectives were:

  • Interviews with the Vale (Tug) management, Vale Port Captains, tug crew members and representative of the Vitória pilot organization;
  • Assessment of the tug operations & competence level of the tug masters;
  • Assessment of the current training structure and training requirements;
  • Audit of the Vale tugs and the related tug management.

Seminar Port Management (Colombia)

The port management course provided participants with an opportunity to improve their understanding of modern Port Management, modern practices, standards and technology to enable improved costs and operational performance

SPRC Fact-finding (Colombia)

SPRC informed STC about their interest in improving their training programmes for their port and terminal employees, in order to optimize the operational performance. Content:

  • Information about the lay out of the port and terminal.
  • Information about the port and terminal procedures and policy’s.
  • Information about the port and terminal strategy and future development.
  • Relevant national legislation.
  • Information about financial figures.
  • Information about training programs for workers of the port and terminal.

FPSO PAZFLOR Simulation Project Fairmount

The objective of the simulation was to accurately replicate the offshore positioning operation in the field and identify any deficiencies in the Installation Contractor’s and/or Companies personnel, execution plan or systems.

EU-India Maritime Transport Project (India)

STC B.V. had the following tasks with the consortium:

  • Co-ordinator for the Amsterdam Port Consultant consortium member.
  • Long term experts on Finance and Administration in both ports with preparations for commercialisation and / or privatization.
  • Short term experts for both ports on HRD, Shipping, Master planning, finance, port legislation and port privatisation.
  • Training, on the job and formal management training
  • Workshops and study tours.

Master Plan and Feasibility Study for Inland Waterway Transports (Serbia)

The total project consists of the following subjects:

  • Master plan for the Serbian Waterways;
  • Feasibility study 1: Quick restoration of unhindered navigation;
  • Feasibility study 2: Rehabilitation of the IWT network;
  • Feasibility study 3: Port plan for the IWT network.

Within the projects STC B.V. was responsible for the cargo & traffic forecast from 2005 till 2025 and for the economic and financial analyses.

Fleet Management Training Course (Philippines)

The last decade a relative large number of passenger ferries capsized in Philippine waters and many people lost their life. For this reason the Dutch Government, through STC B.V., offered the Philippine Authorities assistance to increase safety onboard Philippine registered vessels aiming at reducing the number of ferry disasters and casualties.

Hydrographic Surveyor Course (Surinam)

The MAS is the organization that supervises the compliance of legal rules in shipping. The MAS guarantees a safe and efficient passage of sea-going vessels from and to Suriname based on internationally accepted standards, rules and treaties ratified by Suriname. The MAS pursues to become the best Maritime Authority in the region.

Paramaribo Port Rehabilitation Project (Surinam)

The overall objective of the project (including the physical rehabilitation of the ‘Nieuwe Haven Terminal’ was to enhance the economic growth by improving the accessibility of Suriname for international trade. As for the Technical Assistance (TA) the purpose was to contribute to an improved capacity and efficiency of the port management by means of assistance in the legal and institutional framework, the organizational, operational and planning capacity as well as in training.

Pre-Nautical Training (Surinam)

Nautical training in order to gain a good base for the local pilot training. Duration of the training would range between 6-9 months, depending on the progress during the training. The training started on level zero and will end with the knowledge of at least the basic subjects for a maritime officer to become a licensed pilot.

Maritime Sector Strategic Plan (Kingdom of Tonga)

The project objectives were:

  • To review the current institutional, legislative and economic framework of the Tonga ports and inter-island shipping sectors;
  • To develop a recommended policy position, institutional/legislative framework and implementation plan for consideration by the Government of Tonga;
  • To review the current institutional and operational framework for TMPI, and to develop a recommendations for the improved and future effective operations of TMPI, including a blueprint for transition to the recommended model; and
  • To provide recommendations for reform in accordance with the bullet points above, for consideration by the Government of Tonga

Dutch-Turkish Logistics Knowledge Centre

The following results have been projected:

  • Development of curricula in the field of logistics and intermodal transport.
  • Implementation of education programme, i.e. (a) training of trainers and (b) training and master classes in logistics and intermodal transport.
  • Development of high-level research activities, i.e. a research module of logistics and intermodal transport and developing methodology for elaboration of a Yearbook Logistics and Intermodal Transport Turkey.
  • Promote and start-up exchange programmes of lecturers and students.

VTMIS (Abu Dhabi)

The project objectives were:

  • To review the SOR and prepare detailed specifications so that it can be issued as tender for the pre-qualified bidders;
  • To participate in the evaluation of bids;
  • To prepare organization chart, procedures and responsibility matrix for the VTMIS (three ports) with traffic zones.

TANCANG-STC Port Training Centre (Vietnam)

The goal of the project is to establish, build and commercially operate a port training centre for professional port and transport managers, supervisors and workers to increase ports’ operational efficiency, safety and security in all Vietnamese ports. This cannot be achieved in Vietnam without a starting subsidy.

Platform for the implementation of NAIADES – work package 3: jobs & skills (EU)

The project objectives are:

  • Development of a strategy for harmonised IWT education and training standards.
  • Implementation of the strategy for harmonised IWT education and training standards
  • Integrate IWT knowledge in general logistics education
  • Design of European recruitment strategy.
  • Setup of European IWT recruitment campaign.
  • Support the customisation of national recruitment campaigns.
